Our MP is now being officially investigated over her expenses.
But the investigations are missing the point, which is that her second home in St Albans is too close to her primary home (in Beaconsfield) to count as a place she can claim for.
The local papers in St Albans are now at least using the correct distance - 17 miles, as I pointed out in an earlier post. The parliamentary rules say the second home must be at least 20 miles away.
Never mind whether her daughter stayed at her home, or whether she bought an unnecessarily expensive sofa. She shouldn't be claiming at all, and should do something about her mistake now it has become clear.
Our politicians need to play by the rules. And if they find that, even by mistake, they haven't done so, they should correct the situation.
