Progress for 20 is Plenty in St Albans

Back in November I wrote here about our 20 is Plenty campaign, to bring a 20mph limit to every residential road in St Albans.

Coverage and interest has been huge, and 150 residents have contacted the Council's highways panel to say they support the idea. Yesterday, I spoke at the panel, to tell them more about the idea, and to formally present what amounts to a petition for the idea to be considered further.

The Dept for Transport is coming out more and more strongly in favour of 20mph limits, and this is clearly the future for built-up areas. As I pointed out to the panel last night, the benefits of safer streets and, crucially, the feeling that streets are safer, also fit in perfectly with the objectives of the Council's City Vision plan for the future of St Albans.
